Note that Series 1 is not the first Jack Irish story filmed, but it is the first one not based on a book by Peter Temple. The plot is contrived all the way to the Philippines but the cast and script are terrific as usual. Not to mention the locations!
In this scene Jack and his mates Harry and Cam, driving Harry's Jaguar, have followed a van from the city. They drive west along Somerton Road with Twin Dams Paddock on the left.
The van enters the park on the track to the Park Office. The pretty yellow flowers are the weed Soursob.
At this point Harry finally looks up from his form guide and asks "Where the dickens are we? Hope you're going to fix me up for petrol". Don't worry Harry, you're only about 20km from the city. That's the Sugar Gum Plantation on the left. Up ahead the van is turning left onto the pipe track.
The van stops at the gate into the former Greenvale Sanatorium land. Unfortunately someone has given them the key.
The Jag follows along the pipe track.
Through the trees ahead they see the van parked. In a park with hundreds of hectares of weeds, they have managed to find one of the rare patches of native grass. I wonder how they would like it if we came to their house and parked a truck on their vegetable garden?
Jack and Cam get out to investigate. You will have to watch the show to find out what happens next.
