Woodlands Historic Park
Docks (Rumex sp.)

There are three weedy species of Dock in the park: Curled, Clustered and Fiddle dock. There is also a native species, Slender Dock. At Woodlands Historic park the weeds are usually only a problem in wetter areas.

Biological Control

The Dock Moth (Chamaesphecia doryliformis) can attack all Docks, including the native ones (Strickland et al 2012 page 515). It was released in Victoria in the second half of the 1990s but was only effective on Curled Dock and only in warmer, drier areas. A related species Chamaesphecia chrysidiformis was approved for release in 1989 and would be more suitable for cooler areas, but early attempts to breed the insect in Australia failed.
