Serrated Tussock is one of the highest priority weeds to control because it produces huge numbers of seeds which can blow a long distance. It can be controlled by spot spraying but this is very labour intensive. The entire south and western ends of the park, including the Back Paddock, are badly infested. There are also large infestations on neglected public and private land to the south and south-east of the park, which are a constant source of windblown seed.

Biological Control

Research in Argentina starting in 1999 found three fungi affecting Serrated Tussock: a rust, a smut and a root fungus. They were either not virulent enough, not host specific enough, or in the case of the root fungus could not be isolated to perform experiments. (McLaren and Anderson 2011).
