The puffballs shown above have an outer skin to which soil grains are stuck. After a while this skin breaks away except sometimes for the part at the base, as shown in the first photo. In this specimen the puffball was very firmly attached to the stalk, which according to Canberra Naturemap is not usual. Loose puffballs have also been seen in Woodlands Historic Park. Tulostoma are hard to identify and it is not known if more than one species occurs in the park.
